Fisher Reading

I found this reading incredibly interesting, especially the point about phones and laziness. Fischer uses the example of someone getting into their car, driving to the mailbox, picking up mail, and driving back up their driveway. Now, besides this example being something that would never happen because the average human has common sense [plus look how expensive gas is nowadays] it can be related to what we do now with our technology.
Smartphones are supposed to help us do things faster, easier, and more efficiently. But imagine how many minutes we spend waiting for things to load! We wait for the internet, we wait for someone to text us back [instead of calling] and most of all, we wait for cute cat videos on youtube to load so we can share them with our friends. Now, I know I made the point before of the example being outdated, but we are almost doing the same thing now.
We now hop onto a computer or smartphone, and wait for the Lord almighty Google to provide us with an answer for anything. The example Fischer gives leaves the person driving the car with the option to just walk. In today's day and age, I believe that it has become culturally appropriate to rely on our phones. In true, we don't open books as much [as a whole, not individually. I happen to love books] and we sure as hell aren't going to look up a really obscure fact in the Encyclopedia Britannica.
We are brainwashed into believing there is no other option, purely because we don't want to wait.
